Acacia Fellowship Forecast! Week of 10/31 10/31/2011

Howdy Acacians!

Hope you had a frightfully fun Halloween! Here's what's coming up this week! There are also some important announcements, so please read carefully!

Friday: (11/4)

7:30pm at DCCC room 205: Worship at 7:30 and Bible Study led by George: Man and Woman in a Biblical Perspective. We will be looking at what the Bible says about the role of man and woman in home, church, and society.
10:00pm-12:00am: Broomball with Compass: Even though it's past Halloween, it's an annual tradition to dress up and have a ball! The young'ns of Compass have graciously invited us oldies in Acacia for some fun on the ice! (Contact Seaton (Compass) if you're interested in going! )

Saturday: (11/5)

Convoy of Hope Volunteering at CalExpo: Similar to Homeless Connect but for low-income families too, this one day event is looking for volunteers to help out at various stations like food prep or grocery bagging. Sign up at http://sacramentocoh.org/. See Dave Ho's email from Sunday for more information!! (Also, it's his birthday on Saturday! hint hint..)
Vet-merge Dinner (5:30pm-7:30pm at UCC): VetMerge (the organization that Lisa and George went on a mission trip with,) will be sponsoring a dinner that will showcase some of their veterinary mission trips for all who are interested. There is a flyer attached to this email for those who would like more details. If you want to go and show your support for Lisa and George, please RSVP viasagee@agee-engr.com by Thursday, Nov 3.

Sunday: (11/6)

DUE: Acacia Pics for Thanksgiving Slide Show: The church needs pictures from Acacia to show during the Thanksgiving slide show. They can be anything from Acacia events or just with Acacia folks! They are due Sunday, Nov 6th!.
Daylight Savings: Fall back (we gain an hour back, yay!)

Announcements:

Please Sign the Card for Henry and Monica on Friday: Our dear brother, Henry Wang, recently lost his sister two weeks ago. During this time of difficulty, we hope to show our support and comfort by signing a card together. Please sign the card at Friday night's Bible Study. It will be given to Henry and his family on Saturday during Lily Stein's memorial.
Small Groups: This Friday George will give a brief presentation about the importance and purpose of small group. New small groups are right around the corner. So please sign up!
Offering: We are continuing our monthly Acacia offering this Friday. This is a great way to contribute and support our fellowship. 100% of the proceeds go directly to Acacia related activities.
Start saving your shoe boxes!: Operation Christmas Child is coming up and we will need as many show boxes as we can get.
Birthdays!: Please give your warm birthday wishes to Angel Liang and Mike Hong (Nov 4) and Dave Ho and Gideon Cheng (Nov 5th)!

Acacia Fellowship 10/28/11 10/24/2011

Hi Acacians,

This week we'll be having an orange-themed potluck along with some worship, mission sharing (Rob and Brenda will share about their trip to Shanxi, China) and prayer time. Please bring some kind of orange dish which will serve about 6-8 people, it doesn't have to be made out of oranges necessarily since we'll still need some kind of main course dishes like chicken, pumpkin soup, macaroni and cheese as well... *drool*....

Where: DCCC Upstairs

And here are our announcements for the week:

VetMerge (the organization that Lisa and George went on a mission trip with,) will be sponsoring a dinner that will showcase some of their veterinary mission trips for all who are interested. There is a flyer attached to this email for those who would like more details.
DCCC will be having kitchen training this Sunday (10/30) at 12:45PM which is mandatory for all who would like to use or reserve the kitchen for various activities. I strongly recommend that you attend this if you are interested at all in helping out with any cooking-related activities that our fellowship participates in.

Acacia Weekly Digest - Oct 17-21 10/20/2011

hello everyone!

How are you all doing? Awesome I hope! sooo...this song has been stuck in my head ever since it came out a couple months ago, and esp for the past two days. The song is called do everything by Steven Curtis Chapman (he's actually coming to Sac on Nov 1st for a concert, let me know if you are interested!). And my favorite part of the lyrics is
Everything you do to the glory of the One who made you
Cause He made you
To do every little thing that you do to bring a smile to His face
And tell the story of grace with every move that you make
And every little thing that you do

doesn't that just sum up how we should live our Christian life in 5 simple sentences? I don't know about you, but I get bored very easily and i often go into deep thinking mode pondering if the things i do really matter AT ALL and it really bugs me when i think they don't....BUT...why does that even matter?! because as long as EVERYTHING we do is for the GLORY of GOD, as long as what we do put a smile on HIS face, the tiniest thing we do have an ETERNAL impact! So next time you feel sick about your job/school/doing laundry, do it for the glory of the One who made you! =)

Move onto the agenda items of this week:

We are wrapping up our studies on Joyfully Single very soon, so make sure you come out and hear about the last two! Our wonderful advisor Lily will be sharing with us about COURTSHIP. Please join us for worship at 7:30 pm in room 224.

Annual DCCC Sock drive: Our church is still collecting socks for GIA, please bring them on Friday or Sunday and drop them in the giant blue plastic bin filled with socks in the foyer.

Prayer Meeting: Our church has an all church prayer meeting on Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm. Please come and find out how you can pray for the church, different fellowship, brothers & sisters and the missionaries we support.

Hope God's pulling you through this week. I know it's tough with the weird weather we have. Rain Monday, 80's Tuesday...

Here's what's going on this Friday and this Weekend at Acacia and DCCC:

Friday 10/14/11

7:30pm: Worship with Compass - please be on time for worship!
8:00pm: Bible Study with PG: Joyfully Single Part 11 – Is the Knight in Shining Armor Dead?

Sunday 10/16/11

Sock Drive: As part of Grace in Action (GIA) spearheaded by Uncle Bob, our annual sock drive begins this sunday. This ministry serves the poor and homeless in our local community. The weather is turning cold and we can help keep some feet warm. Please bring a package or two new, unopened, mens' or womens' socks (crew socks, preferred for mens') to church. There will be a collection held at church. Another chance to give will be held on the following Sunday. If you have any questions, please contact Uncle Bob (Bob Jennings).

Worship Team Meeting: If you're a part of the worship team or are interested in serving in this area, please attend this meeting during church lunch (12:10pm in Room 224).

Mission Prayer Time: Been wanting to have time to get together and pray for our missionaries and missions in general? Come to Missions Prayer Time at David and Vivian Leung's house in Davis this Sunday Evening from 5-7pm (RSVP required). Rob and Brenda will be sharing again about the Shanxi Missions trip. If you're interested please contact me so that we can RSVP you with D and V for dinner preparations. (If you can't make it, don't worry. We plan on sharing again during Acacia sometime in the near future.)

Greetings fellow Acacia friends, hope that your week is going well!

We'll be continuing to meet together for Bible study this week for our study of "Joyfully Single" by Jerry on "The Friendship Factor".

Announcements:

We will be having our annual DCCC Church Picnic this coming Sunday the 9th after service, it will be an awesome time of food, games, and fellowship, hope you can join us!
This Friday we will collect offering for the month of October. Offering goes towards the food, activities, and events that we have together as a fellowship.
