Acacia Weekly Digest

09/29/2011

hello Acacians,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far! If not, I'm sorry to hear that, but chin up! cuz this week is almost over! I heard the following statement in small group tonight and would like to share with you. "Whenever I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I just take a step back"  More often than not we focus on the problems at hand and can't take a step back to re-group and focus our attention on God. But He is ALWAYS there! Isn't it reassuring to know that our struggles will never be too hard for Him to handle?! That's what I'd like to call AWESOME right there!

Alritey, onto our agenda for this week! Mr. George Hu will continue to lead us on our study of Joyfully Single this week! The topic is "OPE - Other People's Expectations"

time: 7:30 pm
place: We will be joining Compass for worship in the main sanctuary first and moving up to 205

It's your weekly Acacia update!

09/15/2011

Good Evening Acacia!

Today at work I learned that Wednesdays are sometimes called Hump Day.  This is what Wikipedia has to say about that: The term alludes to the fact that Wednesday is the middle of the work week, meaning that one has made it "over the hump" towards the weekend.

I totally get it.  This week has been nothing short of craziness.  But this week I was also reminded how important it is to rest in Him.  [[Well yes, but what does that even mean?!]]  It may not exactly mean that you should be lying atop fluffy green moss alongside still waters and such.. But it does require some sort of time out.  Time out to read the word, a devotion, to pray, to listen to musica, etc.  And don't be discouraged if you have no clue what to say to God.  I think that even if you come before God with just a desire to hear and learn from him, he'll deliver.

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior.  He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.  Zephaniah 3:17

Congratulations!!!  We've made it over the hump!  :D

GOOD AFTERNOON ACACIA!!!

i must confess, this email is bringing you joy a little later this week because i've been on vacation up until today ^__^  i love having no computer or phone access during such times!  hope you all were able to enjoy a few days of rest and this lovely hothothot weather.

last week the first day of september came upon us like a thief in the night (at least it did for me).  crazy how fast these months go by.  for some of you, you're just starting school again.  for some, continuing work.  and others still, just trying to keep your head up in whatever you're doing.  whether new experience or the same old same old, remember psalms 118:24.  good thing it's been made popular by song so you won't forget it - this is the day the lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!  whatever season you are in life, rejoice always = ]

Acacia Camping Trip
Update on the camping trip.  It's been postponed due to scheduling conflicts.  We'll keep you posted when we figure out another date for this!

Let's get Acacia out there!
Social media is the new black.  I believe that God uses Acacia and our ministry to reach other post-college young adults in navigating through this season of their life.  I'm thinking we can take advantage of our social media inclination to get our name out and bring people into our family.  Here's our website: www.acaciafellowship.org.  Take it and run with it!

Have a blessed day dear friends!

Friday Night Potluck!!!

08/24/2011

Hi Folks!!

That's right!! It's time for another potluck!! As Pastor Gee shared about his recent trip to the UK, a large portion of the asian folks over in the UK are in the take-out food business. So in the spirit of relating to our asian brothers and sisters overseas, the potluck theme this week will be take-out food. For all those who love to bring mcnuggets, fried chicken, OTH chow-fun/popcorn chicken, this is YOUR night.  So go nuts with the cheeseburger/chow-fun/costco chicken etc. It will be in DCCC Room 205 at 7:30pm!! In addition to potluck, we'll also be playing some games!! So in addition to take out food please come prepared to play some pretty fun games. I know...i'm a little scared yet excited too.

And now for announcements:

FALL is coming up!! and you know what that means?!!! Davis will be flooded with students!! So if you know/meet/bump into any grad students...invite them out!!!

Small groups!! We currently have 2 small groups, 1 in Davis on Thursdays, and 1 in Sac on Fridays. If you're interested in joining a small group, please let me/dave/deborah know and we'll put you into one.

Ok have a good one and see you friday.
Jack

Acacia Joint with EFG

06/01/2011

Hello Acacia!
This Friday we'll be joining the English Family Group for some BBQ fun.  Come hang out, eat, and fellowship with our slightly older brothers and sisters.  EFG is gracious enough to provide the food, so all that's required from you is YOU!  We'll be meeting at Westwood Park(Along Barkley Street and Calaveras Ave) at 6:30.  We would greatly appreciate if you can let me know whether or not you can make it to the BBQ so we can let EFG know how much food they need to prepare.  Please let me know by Wednesday if you can make it.

announcements:
-The children's ministry is looking for future sunday school teachers.  IF you are interested in teaching or helping out, please talk to Dan Lim or Stephanie Gee for more info.  if you don't know who they are, come talk to me (david).

-Congrats to Lisa and Deborah for graduating this year!  Your hard work has paid off!

-If you guys are in need of prayer, please don't hesitate to come to us.  We will pray for you!

OK, have a wonderful week everyone.
