Friday Fellowship - 5/4 04/30/2012

howdy,

I hope you guys are all doing well and enjoying this soon-to-be beautiful week. This Friday's fellowship will be a potluck! After spending a few sleepless nights agonizing over whether to have a theme, I couldn't come up with a good one. So, there will be no theme, just hopefully edible and tasty. Please see below for details:

GOING TO iCARE?! This is a general reminder for those who have already signed up (and submitted registration sheets) for iCare to look for an email this week specifying which project you will be doing this coming saturday (5/5)

ENJOY WORKING WITH KIDS? Sign up to help with Vacation Bible School ( 6/18-22 from 8am-Noon)!! It's a great opportunity to come help out with teaching the future about Jesus. It's also a great witness to parents and our community! Please let Brenda, Rob, or me know if you're interested and we'll give you further information

DO YOU LIKE TO PRAY? (i hope so...) On tuesday nights at 7:30pm we have our weekly prayer meeting where we have a short sharing from one of the pastors or one of the fellowship groups followed by small group sharing and prayer. It'd be great to see you there and learn how we can pray for you. Please come out!

//edit:As I was at a loss for a potluck themes, PGee graciously suggested the theme Pastas, Noodles, and Salads. Since that sounds much better than anything edible and tasty, lets go with that for theme.

Hello Acacians!

God is so good. :) I'm so thankful for how He provides for me through the body of Christ in Acacia and I know many of you feel the same way. And to share in my thankfulness I will also share a verse of encouragement that was also given to me in a time of discouragement.

Acacia Retreat 2012!: Early bird sign ups ended last Friday and is now $130. Last call for retreat sign ups is this coming Friday (3/9/2012). Also, if you want to go, but finances are preventing you from attending retreat, please contact any of the three members of the retreat team as soon as possible. Either way, if you're still interested in going to retreat please contact Anli, Charlotte, or Brenda ASAP (or ABC ASAP! hehehe).

Child Care Family Conference: Acacia was requested to help out with childcare on Saturday evening of the Parenting Seminar on 3/17/2012 from 7pm to 9pm. Please let Brenda or Rob know if you area available to help out to play with some kiddos next next Saturday night! "This Thursday Cindy Burger, the Director of Grace In Action, and I will begin a Bible study group for some selected homeless people. Actually, we will use the book, Battlefield of the Mind, by Joyce Meyer as a kind of text/guide, but we will emphasize the scripture. The main theme of the study is defeating the negativity in the mind that is caused by Satan and moving toward a healthy mind (and subsequently healthy action) as generated by the Holy Spirit.

We are asking for individuals to become "Prayer Angels" by taking the name of one of the attendees and praying for that person as often as they can, but especially on each Wednesday night or Thursday morning before the study. The study will begin at 12:30 and end at 2:00pm.

It looks like we will have about 8 or 9 people in the group, so we will need 8 or 9 Prayer Angels. Please see if members of Acacia will be interested in this prayer project. If so, I will send you a list,first names only, and you can assign the name to a Prayer Angel.

Friday Event: Sista's Appreciation 02/29/2012

Hello Acacians,

This week is a very special event for the ladies of Acacia. The dudes of Acacia will be hosting a Sister's Appreciation this Friday in room 205 at DCCC. We would love it if the sisters can arrive at 7:30PM. We will be serving dinner, so please come hungry (unless your a guy...dont come hungry. we will not feed you). Sistas, please feel free to invite your friends and let us know if you have any food allergies or have an aversion to fish. Us guys are very, very blessed to have wonderful sisters and thankful for your services and encouragement in our lives!

Acacia Announcements: Carpenter Tools International Lead Worship/Skit Night this Friday (2/17)! 02/15/2012

Oh fellow brothers and sisters of Acacia!

Last week was pretty amazing with the news of Jeremy Lin's quick rise in the NBA. But what's even more amazing is how God used such a discouraging and challenging beginning - he got let go from two teams within a month - to humble him and teach him that God is his only audience. "I'm not playing to prove anything to anybody," Lin said. "That affected my game last year and my joy last year. With all the media attention, all the love from the fans (in the Bay Area), I felt I needed to prove myself. Prove that I'm not a marketing tool, I'm not a ploy to improve attendance. I too am guilty of forgetting that God is my only judge. Thank God for this awesome reminder that he is in control and the wonders he can do through us when we offer ourselves as living sacrifices for Him. Living a life to please the Spirit and not the world. And even if we fail, we can ALWAYS REJOICE in God's salvation for us through Jesus Christ who became sin for us so that we might live. (See 1 Peter 1:1-9):)

This Friday we are having a special joint worship/skit night with Compass as Carpenters Tools International (CTI) comes to DCCC for a night of music, worship, skits, and prayer. Come be refreshed and have a special quality time with God together with your fellow brothers and sisters. CTI is a traveling music ministry with amazing talent and with them, an old member of Compass (Christina Tamai)! Since they are a non-profit ministry, please help support them during the time of offering (suggested donation of $5/person).

Come to the Sanctuary at 7:30pm and be blessed!Also for Retreat (March 23-25), this is a reminder to those that have signed up for retreat that the early bird cost only applies if you pay before March 3 (less than a month!). The yellow manilla envelope will be around on Friday as well, so bring your moola :) and we'll stop buggin' you! And if you haven't signed up for retreat, you still have time!! Come be encouraged and refreshed!

Hi Friends!

This week in Acacia we will be continuing our Bible study series on Philippians by concluding chapter 1.

Here are the details below:

We will be collecting offering this week.

Announcements:

Acacia is responsible for church lunch this coming Sunday; If you are available to help prepare food on Saturday at 2:00 PM please let one of us know.
Our church will be sponsoring a bone marrow drive this coming Sunday at 1:00 PM, please stop by to have your cheek swabbed and see if you are a compatible donor.
Next Friday (2/10) we will be having our annual DCCC Missions Conference in lieu of Acacia.
Next, next Friday (2/17) we will be sponsoring Carpenter's Tools International to come and share about their missions and worship with us. The members of CTI are looking for a place to stay overnight that Friday so if you are willing to house some of them for the evening please let one of us know.

Acacia Chinese New Year Hot Pot 01/16/2012

Hi Acacia Friends!

This coming Friday (1/20) we will be celebrating Chinese New Year together by having hot pot together, hooray! Please invite your friends and coworkers that might be interested in coming out to experience the magic of hot pot. We will begin an hour earlier than usual so please be on time to make sure you don't miss out on the hot food :)

Also, we will need about 5-6 hot pots for this event so if you are able to lend us your hot pot to use please let me know.

As noted last week, this Thursday (1/19) will be the Veritas Forum on campus to discuss reasons for the belief in God, please contact me for more details if you are interested in attending.
There will be a DCCC Coworker's Meeting on (1/22) following church; this meeting is open to all members of DCCC to provide feedback about various aspects of our ministry.

Please note that we will not be in our usual room this Friday due to switching with the Cantonese department.Announcements:

There will be a Worship Team video on 1/14 @ 10AM at church led by Howe which will cover various aspects about being on a church worship team. This is recommended for anybody involved in worship teams or music ministry but all are invited as well.
The Veritas Forum will be on UC Davis campus on 1/19 @ 8PM which will feature questions and answers about our belief in God. Please see the bottom of this email for more details.
Please reserve March 23-25 on your calendars as this is the tentative retreat date for our annual Acacia retreat.

The Veritas Forum: Do you know why you believe or why you don't believe? Underneath the incredibly complex human brain are a few decision-making tools that have been with us since the Stone Age. Come learn about the science of human belief in God from noted researcher and cognitive scientist Dr. Justin Barrett. Dr. Barrett's presentation will focus on several important concepts including how religious belief is natural based on its evolutionary advantages and the way human minds work, as well as the implications of these ideas on religious thought. A Q&A session with the audience, moderated by Dr. Bryan Enderle, will follow Dr. Barrett's talk.

Dr. Barrett holds a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Cornell University and served as the senior researcher for the Centre for Anthropology and the Mind and the Institute for Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University.
