The Veritas Forum: Do you know why you believe or why you don't believe? Underneath the incredibly complex human brain are a few decision-making tools that have been with us since the Stone Age. Come learn about the science of human belief in God from noted researcher and cognitive scientist Dr. Justin Barrett. Dr. Barrett's presentation will focus on several important concepts including how religious belief is natural based on its evolutionary advantages and the way human minds work, as well as the implications of these ideas on religious thought. A Q&A session with the audience, moderated by Dr. Bryan Enderle, will follow Dr. Barrett's talk.

Dr. Barrett holds a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Cornell University and served as the senior researcher for the Centre for Anthropology and the Mind and the Institute for Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University.

While you may think you understand belief, believe me, there's so much more to learn! Join us in 123 SciLec at 8:00pm on Thursday, January 19. The Veritas Forum, jointly sponsored by the Club Finance Council and a coalition of Christian fellowships, is perfect for anyone interested in psychology, religious studies, philosophy, or anthropology. Bring your friends, and we'll see you there!

hello everyone!

I hope you are all having a good week so far!! I heard there's heavy fog in NorCal (which explains why I'm still in LA...), so be careful when you drive!!!

This week our very own Joseph Toan will present a workshop for us called Bible Story Telling!! Some of us heard this at the OMF Heart for Asia conference and it's very useful when it comes to spread the gospel. =) We will meet in room 215 at 7:30 pm this Friday with worship lead by Mike Zhang.

A couple announcements:

We will have a white elephant gift exchange (sorry, but no unlimited stealing) on Dec 16th. Please prepare a gift that's less than $10 and bring it that night.

Luke, Jenn, Rob, Deborah, Anna and Mike will perform this Saturday at 9:30 am at Davis central park's farmers market. Please go cheer them on!

oh hello dear brothers and sisters,

I hope you are having an amazing week so far. The weather might be a little chilly, but i pray your hearts are all on fire for God! <3 This week's Acacia is quite short, but there are some important information! First of.....WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS FRIDAY!! PG will be finishing off our last study of Joyfully Single, the role of men and women II! We will meet in our regular room at 7:30 pm with worship lead by Billy.

::a couple announcements::

church work day! Please come to clean/beautify our church this saturday at 9 am. You don't have to stay for the full duration of the work day (9-12), you will be surprised at how much an hour or two can do!

Operation Christmas Child: yes!!! Christmas is coming soon!!! Now....CLOSE YOUR EYES!! (yes, I mean it...do it!) now try to remember the best gift you've received, whether it's the super soft bear or a limited edition barbie or a xbox....do you remember how excited you were when you opened that gift? I sure do! And that's why Acacia is packing super awesome gifts in shoeboxes and sending them to a child who might have never received a gift before! I believe seeing the smile on that child's face and use this as an opportunity to share Christ with him/her will trump any gift we receive ourselves. We will have a shoebox packing party next Friday, so please bring shoeboxes, toys, school supplies, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap (nothing sharp or war related please!) by then and let the fund begin!

Please see below for a video of how to pack a shoe box (i have no idea who that dude is...but look how excited he is about packing the shoe box!!) http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/Pack_A_Shoe_Box/

Have a blessed rest of the week and see you on Friday!
